A UK firm from Manchester is in the middle of a legal battle to get compensation for victims of an asbestos related health problem. The legal firm is fighting a billion pound battle for the compensation. The firm is fighting for compensation for clients that have developed asbestos related pleural plaques. This is where the lung lining can become damaged and scarred, and could lead ultimately to the asbestos related cancer known as mesothelioma.
A UK insurance company tried to put an end to compensation payouts for victims of pleural plaques earlier this year by taking the matter to the courts. Although the insurance company, Norwich Union, failed to get a complete ban on compensation payouts for sufferers of this condition, it did succeed on getting the compensation levels for this condition lowered.
The insurance company attended the Court of Appeal to continue its battle to end compensation payouts to pleural plaques sufferers recently, and the legal firm is fighting for the rights of its clients to get compensation for this condition.
Data from the insurance industry in the UK suggests that over the next four decades compensation payouts for asbestos related conditions could top ten billion, out of which a billion could go to those suffering from pleural plaques.
