The Ontario Ministry of Labor has announced the update of its workplace safety laws and regulations in relation to asbestos. The Ministry announced the update earlier this week, and plans to have more stringent protective measures in place in regards to this matter. New training requirement and management programs are to be introduced to aid the updates on the regulations.
Labor Minister Steve Peters stated: "As part of the government's ongoing commitment to create safer and healthier workplaces, we have expanded protections based on the latest scientific and technical knowledge about asbestos. The next step will be to introduce improved worker training."
The new and updated regulations will provide improvements in a number of ways. The move comes as part of a government initiative to improve general workplace health and safety issues.
