It turns out that a great many people in Britain have never even heard of mesothelioma, never mind know what it is, and this highlights the need for additional resources and education in this field.
Mesothelioma figures in the US and the UK are at am all-time high, and the disease is expected to reach epidemic proportions within the next ten to fifteen years. Worryingly, the only people that seem to be aware of what it is and how it can affect people are those suffering from it and those in the medical profession.
A recent report in the British Medical Journal highlighted the need to additional education and resources in the field of mesothelioma, claiming that even those in the medical profession didn’t know as much about the disease as was required.
Mesothelioma is one of the mot under-funded forms of cancer, and although clinical trials are being conducted more money is necessary in order to facilitate further research and education for the British public. Without being aware of the disease and its symptoms, those that may actually be at risk will never know until it is too late.
