There are increasing fears over asbestos exposure at a school in the UK following the discovery of this potentially lethal substance. Three students at the school have contracted cancer, and worried parents have been expressing their concerns following the death of the latest student, who had been fighting leukaemia.
However, the head teacher of the school has informed parents that there is nothing to worry about, and that pupils are not at risk. Mike Foley said that the asbestos was discovered during building works, but that there was no threat to the 900 pupils at the school.
A worried parent had contacted environmental authorities in the UK about the discovery of the asbestos, but following the head teacher’s comments, experts have agreed that the asbestos does not pose a threat to the pupils at the school.
The mother of one of the students with cancer stated that it looked as though the level of leukaemia at the school was just a coincidence, and that her heart went out to the parents of the boy that had recently lost his life to cancer.
