The widow of a victim that died from mesothelioma has been told she has won a ‘large amount’ of her £150,000 claim for negligence from her husband’s former employer.
Patricia King, from the UK, was forced to watch as her husband suffered a torturous death from mesothelioma, which he contracted whilst working at George Mixed & Company in Norwich. Her husband, aged 72 when he died, only learned that he had the disease in November 2002. By December 2002, just a month later, he was dead.
Mrs King apparently learned of her right to claim compensation as she comforted her husband in his hospital bed at the James Paget Hospital. She then filed a claim for compensation, which took over a year to be resolved and paid out.
Mrs King stated: "It took just over a year for it to come through and it was a case of constantly calling up trying to find out what was happening. It was really frustrating. But now it's over I'm quite happy with the outcome.” She added: "I may have won the battle, but no settlement will bring my husband back or replace what we have lost."
Mr King, who worked for George Mixer & Company as a carpenter, spent between 1958 and 1966 working on various prefabricated buildings for the company, and was required to work with sheeting that was asbestos based.
Mr King left behind two grown up children and his widow.
