An experienced asbestos consultant who has been in the business for 20 years has expressed concern over the risk that patients in hospitals could be put at risk during times of renovation when toxic materials such as lead and asbestos could be released. Dan Taylor expressed these concerns at a time when many hospitals and health facilities are thinking about renovations.
Mr. Taylor stated, "Asbestos is the most prevalent and most regulated hazardous material likely to be found during a site investigation. Before starting renovations in a healthcare facility, there are many suspect materials that should be researched including asbestos and lead, which can be located in flooring, acoustical ceiling tiles or paint, or in harder to reach locations like, shafts and thermal system insulation or fireproofing."
Mr. Taylor, the founder and owner of an environmental company, stated that indoor air quality is of the utmost importance in order to keep health problems at bay, and particularly in an environment where there are people that already have a myriad of health issues.
