Demolition Delay For School Due To Asbestos -- MesoLink.org -- 08-24-05

Delays have been experienced with the demolition of the older part Iber Holmes Gove Middle School due to the length of time taken for the asbestos abatement.

The abatement project is now drawing to an end, which means that the demolition of the oldest part of the school can get underway next week. The president of the school construction company stated that there was a delay due to contractors having to identify all of the items that needed extracting, but he confirmed that things were now coming along.

"There’s been a little delay in getting everything ready for demolition, but once we get it started it should move right along. We’re a little behind where we’d like to be, but it’s nothing too significant."

He also confirmed that the next stage was to sort through the debris from the job, during which time the required documentation and permits for the scheduled work would be in place. It was necessary to conduct the abatement in the older section of the building, as there were various parts that contained asbestos, such as floor and wall tiles.
