A number of employees are upset over works to remove asbestos from the Clark Building in the run up to the start of school. For a number of weeks CSU had been sucking out asbestos from the building and removing ceiling tiles.
Linda Stapel, a research associate at CSU who works in the area where the removal took place, stated: "My health is at issue. Every time I come here I have a sore throat."
However, officials from the Environmental Health Department of the university have stated that there is nothing for employees to be concerned about. Eric March, asbestos and lead coordinator at EHS, said that the work was pre-planned and stated: "There's virtually no safety risk at all."
He also stated that certified experts had been monitor both the work and the air quality, and that all safety standards had been adhered to. He stated: "The campus strictly adheres to all regulations and protocols to ensure the health of the student body, personnel and public."
