Many residents in Manhattan have spoken out about their outrage over the firm that has been hired to clean up and demolish the Deutsch Bank Building, which has been highly toxic since the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001. The residents are demanding that the agency in charge of the Ground Zero rebuild cease operations with the company.
It has been alleged that the John Galt Co., which was hired by the Lower Manhattan Development Corp, has only recently received its asbestos abatement license. Residents are concerned that the company is therefore not equipped to handle the job.
The LMDC has been urged to find another contractor to carry out the clean up and demolition at the toxic building, and "to quickly revise all demolition plans."
Some officials have also expressed concerns over the competence of the company currently hired to do the works. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer said: "It's almost unbelievable. They should suspend this company immediately."
