A mother from Vancouver has revealed that she may be taking legal action over the removal of asbestos near to her 8-year-old daughter’s spring break day care class. The mother stated that she discovered asbestos was being removed in an elementary school just 50 meters from where her daughter attends day care classes during spring break.
The work is being carried out at Henry Hudson Elementary and the mother, Robyn Lawrence, stated she was fuming because no mention had been made. She stated that parents should have been alerted to this potential danger. "It's just insane that these are the people that are essentially co-parenting our kids. How could they make this decision on our behalf?"
The supervisor of the daycare center stated that she had been assured that the process being used was perfectly safe, but she did agree that parents should have been advised of what was going on.
The Vancouver School Board’s Director of Facilities agreed that daycare staff should be keeping parents informed of any work being carried out, and stated: "We expect the day cares themselves to deal with their parents, since we don't keep a list of who they are or how to contact them."
