The View LLC in Kansas has been fined by The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office for asbestos violations. A settlement figure of $20,000 has been reached, and this is to be paid to the Jackson County School Fund. The action was taken following a complaint received about renovations that were taking place, and an inspector was sent out to the site to investigate the situation.
It was determined during the investigation that no notification had been given to the proper authorities regarding the asbestos removal project. It was also determined that the asbestos was being removed by people that were not certified or trained in asbestos removal, which was in direct violation of regulations. The asbestos, it was discovered, was not being properly packages for disposal by the untrained workers.
A number of violations were cited as part of the action taken by authorities. This included failure to comply with emission control procedures and proper disposal of the asbestos. Failure to register as a contractor and use certified workers for the asbestos removal project was also cited as part of the action.
Asbestos is a mineral that can cause a number of diseases and illnesses including a deadly cancer known as mesothelioma. Violations of regulations regarding the removal of asbestos results in hefty fines and harsh penalties.
