Discussions are currently underway with regards to the future of a Fowler elementary school. Trustees are trying to reach a decision with regards to the fate of Park Elementary School, which is a school that many of the local attended over the years. There are various options for the school, including restructure. However, amongst other concerns is the worry that there may asbestos in the building, and that renovations could disturb the asbestos causing danger as well as increasing costs through clean ups.
Town of Fowler Mayor Eileen Straach, stated: "It will be hard to tear down a building that so many of our citizens went to school in, but demolition is still a possibility." Other options include selling the building to an interest party or simply improving the structure and using the building as office or rental office for the city.
The school was built in 1906, and was a small educational building with only six teachers but early two hundred students. The later erection of the high school eased the overcrowding problems. The fate of the school now lies in the hands of trustees. However, the trustees have stated that they prefer to have the input of Fowler local before making a decision on the outcome of the situation. It has therefore been decided that a town meeting will be arranged to enable Fowler to come to a majority decision with regards to what to do with the school.
